On 06.06.2023, Polish Primary School Katolicka Szkoła Podstawowa i Zabrze hosted seniors from the Senior Activity Centre in Zabrze at the school. The school garden became a place for education and social integration. The guests, together with students from KSP III classes, carried out an international Flowers for Grandmother and Grandfather- Service-Learning project, the aim of which was to establish a green corner.
All pupils were involved in the project work, including those who need help with their studies and daily life at school. In this way, we want to teach respect for seniors, empathy and intergenerational relations. The project is an example of Service-Learning, a form of teaching and learning that combines students’ social engagement with learning. It is hoped that students will take action for the common good in different spheres: social, political, environmental or cultural. UDL strategies were used during the project group’s work. Our project idea will be presented to foreign partners, included in an application and guide about inclusive schools, as an example of good practice.
